The VAULT Collection

“Back when the show first aired I always thought how amazing it would be to own one of the seaQuest uniforms.  Years later my visit to John Kachmar’s Costume Museum was a revelation – never did I think I’d get to see such a vast collection of original wardrobe up close.

I discovered my first pieces in a Sci-Fi shop in Orlando – there was something so decadent about finding screenused items on the rack.  Since then the joy of the hunt has never waned, and thanks to the generosity of some fellow ‘Questies I’ve built up a collection the likes of which I’d never dared dream.

I’m honoured to be able to preserve part of the legacy of seaQuest and proud to showcase it here on my site for everyone to enjoy…”

The branded wetsuits were supplied as part of an endorsement deal with the production to feature throughout the second season.  This wetsuit first appeared in promo shots worn by Scheider with a standard-size seaQuest patch applied to the left side.  This was subsequently replaced with a larger one attached on the right for use in the show – although Bridger would not appear in a wetsuit again for the remainder of the series.

Worn by Roy Scheider in his final appearance in the series, this style of BDU was also used by Commander Ford, Lucas Wolenczak and Dagwood on their mission in seaQuest 2032.

Captain’s Casuals

Episode: ‘To Be Or Not To Be’

Miscellaneous wardrobe items acquired for Roy Scheider comprising of plain short-sleeved light grey heather t-shirt (no sizes marked) with production-altered velcro collar and a pair of tan cargo-style shorts by Generra (size 33).

Nathan Bridger wore similar items to this throughout the series, starting from his introduction in the pilot and later in scenes where the Captain was off-duty.  The T-shirt & shorts combination was somewhat autobiographical of Scheider who had appeared onscreen in similar attire since ‘Jaws’ in 1975.

Captain’s Casual Shirt

Season: 2

Character: Nathan Bridger

Episode: ‘Watergate’

‘Canyon Cloth’ Cotton long-sleeved button-down collar shirt in pale yellow (size L) by Roundtree & Yorke worn by Roy Scheider.

This style of shirt was exemplary of the Captain’s off-duty wardrobe for the second season, typically worn with collars & sleeves rolled up.  This particular item appears towards the end of the episode where the crew congregates to watch a concert onboard the sub.

The ‘Seasuits’ were designed by Ingrid Price and custom-made at Disney Studios due to it being the only facility able to of deliver a bulk order.  The nylon buckles were supplied by Fastex (Model QR-1) and were designed to marry up with corresponding safety (orange) or utility (black) vests which McCord also wears throughout the episode. This uniform may have been re-used in subsequent episodes and later had its patches upgraded to the rank of Captain.

This was one of many products donated by the brand to both cast and crew alike for filming the second season onwards.  This particular outfit was worn by Sanchez in the publicity shoot to introduce the new crew. The seaQuest patches on the suits were later upgraded to larger ones for subsequent episodes.

Duty Uniform ‘Shortie’ Seasuit

Season: 2/3

Character: Lonnie Henderson/Heiko Kimura

Complete 3-piece female Duty Uniform comprising of grey-fleck cotton bodysuit (no size marked) and heavy cotton Indigo blue zip-front sleeveless jumpsuit with patch pockets on chest, vent pockets in sides and flapped pockets on rear.  Mandarin collar carries internal bias label embroidered ‘Mary Young Gordon’ and ‘Henderson’ inscribed in black ink.  Accessories include adjustable black pistol belt, seaQuest 4600 chest patch, Lt. Commander triangular collar patches and removable velcro name patch designating ‘Lt. Commander H. Kimura’.

The ‘Shortie’ seasuits were so named for their daring cut & length.  As the mandate for season 2 was to present a ‘younger, sexier’ crew the designers introduced more revealing uniforms.  The trouser version of these suits became standard after Roy Scheider objections to the shorts looking less professional.  Although apparently allocated to Kathy Evison, this particular uniform may well have been the last ever made for the show as it was adjusted for Julia Nickson, whose character was to become a regular on the show just before cancellation.

Season: 2/3

Character: Various

Apparently only 50 Seasuits were ever produced and were frequently reused by both cast and background artistes by switching out rank patches etc. The denim used was prone to fading and purposefully became lighter with every wash to achieve the worn-in look.
